OUR STORY
 

As a landlord and homeowners, we struggled to find reliable, hardworking handymen. Handymen who turned up on time, completed jobs to a high standard and who left our property as a clean as they found it. The hardest part was finding anyone at all and when we did, the customer experience was obviously low down on their list of priorities.

 

The idea for Odd Job Heroes was born.

 

So what makes us different? Well, firstly, we’re determined to put the customer at the heart of everything we do. Which means we recruit people who have the technical skills to complete a job (clearly this is a prerequisite), but who also have the softer skills we need.

 

To quote the old adage: people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel. 

 

Secondly and just as importantly, there's a pool of talent that’s often overlooked and simply ignored: those people nearing retirement, who have retired or are perhaps re-entering the workforce after a long period of lay off.

 

With the chronic shortage of talent in the industry, the obvious question is: why wouldn’t you recruit from this demographic?

 

Our community matters to us

 

Our handymen and women come from diverse backgrounds and nationalities. Some are ex, white collar-professionals and others have spent years in the industry, but all have one thing in common: they want to remain active and are ready to provide a valuable service to our community.

The good news is Odd Job Heroes provides a completely flexible way of working, which is the number ONE workplace practise that would support people to work for longer.

Also, you may be surprised to know that nearly one third of the UK workforce are aged 50 or over, that's more than 10 million workers!

In less than 20 years time, 1 in 4 people will be over 65.

Right here on our doorstep, Leeds City Council has ambitions is to be a place where people age well: where older people are valued, feel respected and appreciated and are seen as the assets they are

We actively support older works, but we're open to applicants of any age.
